Both. A bowl’s physical size determines its octave, and octave shapes how a note is actually experienced. Larger bowls produce deeper, lower-octave tones with slow, grounding vibrations you feel as much as hear. Smaller bowls produce higher-octave tones that ring bright and clear. When we build a set, we balance which octave of each note lets the whole set breathe, so no single bowl overpowers the others.
